Pasadena, TX - Joe Horn, 61, has been released from any possible charges related to his shooting of two thieves, who Mr. Horn saw leaving his neighbor’s home with a bag of stolen property.
Naturally, the liberals are fired up about this.
On Alan Colmes’ radio show last night, callers (as well as Mr. Colmes) persisted in saying that Mr. Horn was a murderer, that the 911 call transcript showed premeditation in said murders, and that Mr. Horn should be prosecuted. One caller even stated that Mr. Horn should be ‘hung on a gallows’, but Colmes disagreed, saying that nobody should be ‘hung’, but that he should definitely receive prison time.
Several callers attempted to point out that Texas law does in fact allow a citizen (who is legally authorized to own a weapon) to use deadly force not only to defend against someone breaking into your own house, but to stop burglary, murder, rape, etc. This law is known as the Castle Doctrine, and has been enacted in over 15 states in the US. Mr. Colmes would have none of it, saying that ‘it wasn’t self-defense, and the law says you can defend yourself, but not shoot people randomly in your neighbor’s yard’.
Mr. Colmes, do you know a single thing about Texas law? No? Good — shut up.
While critics of the law say it’s vague and was never intended to be used when a crime is committed in your neighbor’s yard, the law doesn’t limit citizens from it, either. Therefore, it could be argued that to say it couldn’t apply to neighboring property would be to force non-law as law.
Also, as for shooting ‘random people in your neighbor’s yard’, RANDOM PEOPLE DON’T CRAWL THROUGH WINDOWS WITH BAGS OF STOLEN PROPERTY! Therefore, it’s impossible that these men were just random victims of a vigilante.
Liberals need to learn what laws they are arguing against and stop side-stepping certain parts of those laws that don’t appeal to their own personal agendas.
There are protests pending against the decision to allow Mr. Horn to go free.
Liberals would have us not defend ourselves, not defend the innocent, and not ‘reduce the power of the police’. People owning and using guns to prevent crime DOES NOT reduce the power of the police. In fact, it helps keep the police out of the line of fire and handles the situation until the police arrive. Criminals do not walk away free, which helps reduce repeat offenses.
I am not here to condone vigilante justice. Acting in accordance with state law to exercise your legal right to defend yourself and others is not vigilante justice.
Mr. Colmes, you are an idiot.
