Man Detained in Maryland for ‘Death to Obama’ Sign
From HuffPo:
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The Secret Service is investigating a man who authorities said held a sign reading “Death to Obama” outside a town hall meeting on health-care reform in western Maryland.
The sign also read, “Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids,” referring to the first name of President Barack Obama’s wife, said Washington County Sheriff’s Capt. Peter Lazich.
Lazich said deputies detained the unidentified, 51-year-old man near the entrance to Hagerstown Community College about 1 p.m. Wednesday after getting calls from a number of people attending the meeting held by Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md. Obama was not at the meeting.
The sheriff’s office turned the man over to the Secret Service, Lazich said.
Barbara Golden, special agent in charge of the agency’s Baltimore field office, said Thursday that an investigation is ongoing but declined further comment. A spokesman at the agency’s Washington headquarters also declined to discuss the investigation.
Police said there were no other arrests among the nearly 1,000 people, some carrying protest signs, who came to the college for the meeting or demonstrated off-campus.
Cardin’s national communications director, Sue Walitsky, called the incident “unfortunate.” She said she was unaware of it until Thursday morning.
Ok, as much as I dislike the policies of Obama, THIS GUY IS A RETARD. Especially when you drag Michelle and the kids into it.
But to be fair, it’s still just free speech. Kind of like this stuff.
Free speech or not, he shouldn’t have done that.

Sotomayor Confirmed
From the AP:
WASHINGTON (AP) - It’s Justice Sotomayor now. Sonia Sotomayor has been sworn in as the Supreme Court’s first Hispanic justice. She’s only the third female justice in the court’s 220-year history.
Sotomayor took the second of two oaths of office Saturday from Chief Justice John Roberts in an ornate conference room at the high court, beneath a portrait of the legendary Chief Justice John Marshall. She swore a first oath in a private ceremony minutes earlier.
Sotomayor’s mother, brother, other relatives and friends joined her for the occasion.
In one oath, she promised to support and defend the Constitution. In the second, she pledged to “administer justice” fairly and impartially.
I hope she does a good job with that impartiality thing. I hope she proves everybody wrong. If not, I hope people will admit that they were wrong about her.

Your seditious diatribe and miasmic comments are disgusting, and do not belong on public communications media. Your candidate lost last November. Get over it. H Pappas
Wow. This came out of left field. My candidate wasn’t on the ballot, genius. Not as a major player, anyway. And I don’t have to get over anything.
Have a good night, and thanks for recognizing sedition when you see it. :D

Breaking: Sarah Palin Resigning as Alaska Governor
From the AP:
WASILLA, Alaska – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Friday she is resigning from office at the end of the month, raising speculation that she would focus on a run for the White House in the 2012 race.
The former Republican vice presidential candidate made the surprise announcement from her home in suburban Wasilla on Friday morning. She said she would step down July 26 but didn’t announce her plans.
“Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional Lame Duck status in this particular climate would just be another dose of politics as usual, something I campaigned against and will always oppose,” Palin said in a statement released by her office.
“It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success,” she said.
Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the governor’s picnic in Fairbanks at the end of the month, Palin spokesman Dave Murrow said.
Palin was first elected in 2006 on a populist platform. But her popularity has waned as she waged in partisan politics following her return from the presidential campaign. Her term would have ended in 2010.
