Idiocy on Parade
A hero? Eh…hardly. Why is the world (especially California, for some reason) full of idiots?
They really need to remove ALL warning labels from things and let nature run its course.
A police force is an occupying force? Whatever. Took a stand? He shot four cops! These people are idiots, pure and simple.

Lovelle Mixon was a piece of garbage. He had a rap sheet a mile long and really had no business being out on the streets in the first place. Props to the criminal justice system (sarcasm). The people at that rally aren’t idiots per se, they are tired of the police taking their freedoms, but they certainly could have found a better person to rally around then an ex con like Mixon.

The police are supposed to take freedoms from criminals. I believe we agree on the basis of this. :D
Calling a cop killer a hero generally makes someone sound like an idiot, in my opinion.

Yes but the people are not arguing about cops taking freedoms, they are arguing about cops taking freedoms from non criminals. About not being able to walk down their streets without being profiled, about not being able to go to the cops with problems for fear of being judged bc they are black. That is the real issue at hand. Yes calling a cop killer a hero is stupid, but in reality they are just arguing that the influence that the cops have in their community is overwhelming and takes the rights away from non criminals.

A couple of the people are worried about that. I don’t know if you are familiar with the neighborhoods in these areas, but they are predominantly black with ultra-high crime rates.
These communities are riddled with gang violence, drugs, and other issues. If the police weren’t paranoid when they went into these neighborhoods, there would be far more dead policemen. And I agree that there are most likely a few cops who take things too far, but there are far more people in these communities who see the police as just a group that wants to keep them down, which is inaccurate.

Here’s some info on the group that was leading these protests:
From their own website:
“InPDUM is a grassroots organization, led by the black working-class community. It was founded in 1991 in Chicago by the African People’s Socialist Party.
InPDUM membership is open to anyone united with democracy for the African community and that self-determination is the highest expression of democracy.
InPDUM is a courageous organization that stands as a beacon to people everywhere who are used to seeing our so-called leaders sell-out to fill their own pockets.
InPDUM is known and respected around the world for demanding reparations to African people for slavery and colonialism, demanding an end to the police containment of our communities, pushing for real economic development instead of more police, protecting the dignity of our children as intelligent, capable and talented human beings, and taking the right stand on many other issues that face the African community, even when it is unpopular to do so.”
Some of these ideas sound really good. Others are just stupid ideas. Still others are total spin. I won’t go into it, this is just some of the background of the protest leaders.

I attend one of the most predominately black public universities in the state of Texas. It is built in a neighborhood that is well known for being a black neighborhood. I have been accepted to a graduate school that has been a traditional black college since it’s founding. I understand the feeling of black people toward police. Racial profiling runs rampant throughout the United States and these people are 100% correct in being upset about the police mining their neighborhoods like this. Now they could have pursued another avenue other than supporting a cop killer, but their argument is valid nonetheless. The amount of crystal meth users, the most popular drug today beating out even crack, among suburban, middle class white males has increased dramatically over the past five years. But do we see cops constantly patrolling every single street in River Oaks, or the Woodlands, or Southlake in Dallas? Absolutely not. There is a clear racial bias among law enforcers. Most of these neighborhoods in LA are drug addicted because of old rich white men in the CIA selling crack in inner city Los Angeles thus causing the drug epidemic. Go research Highway Ricky Ross, then you’ll understand why they feel this way.

Every one of those points from that group sound good to me. Now using a cop killer as a vehicle, eh not so much. I’ll definitely look up that group though after reading that, good stuff there.

Unfortunately, it’s got less to do with racial profiling out in Oakland and more to do with a very high crime rate which, unfortunately, are crimes committed by black people.
I can see how this can be skewed by someone with an agenda, but the fact is that in these areas, the statistics speak for themselves.
The Woodlands has a far FAR lower crime rate than Oakland. FAR.
I don’t think socialism is good. It hasn’t worked properly anywhere. Reparations are a stupid idea too. It benefits nobody to punish descendants who have nothing to do with an injustice that occurred a long time ago.

Yes the woodlands does have a lower crime rate, but they also were not the focal point of a CIA operation that sold crack to their neighborhoods sparking a national wide epidemic that still exists. Also these neighborhoods are filled by rich white people who are able to better provide for their children due to their advantages while youth in LA do not have such advantages. If your argument to support this is that the Woodlands has a lower crime rate than South Central you are in bad shape.
No statistics do not speak for themselves. If you don’t look at the environment you don’t get the whole picture. I will venture to guess there are less murders in Columbia than in America, however those statistics cannot speak for themselves because it is much more dangerous there than it is here. You have to look at the environment and not be short sighted.
Socialism has never been properly enacted so it cannot be evaluated. That would be like calling what America has a democracy (it’s not) and evaulating democracy based on that.
Reparations are bad idea? Are you ok with Holocaust museums and America constantly supporting Israel? So we can hand reparations to Jewish people in the form of blood and treasure but we can’t give reparations to blacks who were held in chains not even 200 years ago? Odd reasoning.

“If your argument to support this is that the Woodlands has a lower crime rate than South Central you are in bad shape.”
Wow. I’m in bad shape. ROFL.
That’s the great thing about America. If you want it bad enough, you can make things work for you. Nobody is FORCED to stay in the slums, generally.
“No statistics do not speak for themselves.”
Eh…yeah.
“Socialism has never been properly enacted so it cannot be evaluated. That would be like calling what America has a democracy (it’s not) and evaulating democracy based on that.”
What do we have? A Constitutional Republic or something? If it has never been properly enacted, what is the ‘proper’ way to enact it? From all of the applications I’ve read about (or attempted applications), it’s failed either way.
I stand on my argument against reparations. A Holocaust museum is OK. Heck, a slavery museum is OK, too. Neither thing was good. I’d wager that the US supports Israel because people still are convinced that they are currently God’s chosen people.
I’m OK with giving former slaves monetary compensation. Introduce me to a couple. :D
These situations, in terms of types of support given, are based on different premises.
